Got a story?

If you know something Kansas City should know, we want to hear it. Big or small — a document, a pattern you've noticed, a thing that doesn't add up, a story nobody's telling.

Send us a tip

Email [email protected]. Tell us as much or as little as you're comfortable with. A useful tip usually answers three things: what happened, how you know, and whether anyone else can confirm it — but don't let a missing piece stop you from writing.

Staying anonymous

You do not have to tell us who you are. If you want to keep your name out of it entirely:

  • Use a fresh email address that isn't tied to your name (make one just for this), and send it from a personal device and network — not your workplace's.
  • Leave your name out of the message, and strip names from any documents you attach if they identify you.
  • Tell us you want anonymity — say it plainly in the message. If you give us your identity, we treat protecting it as non-negotiable. We'd rather lose a story than burn a source.

Fair warning, honestly given: email is never perfectly anonymous. For most tips it's plenty. If what you have is sensitive enough that this page's advice doesn't feel like enough, say so in a first, vague message and we'll work out a safer channel together.

What happens next

A real person reads every tip. We verify before we publish — so we may write back with questions if you've given us a way to. We won't name you, quote you, or use identifying details without your explicit okay.

Corrections to something we've published go to [email protected] instead — see our Ethics & Independence page.
